Location: Shanghai Institutional Investors' Stock Index Futures Risk Seminar Notes
Travel notes: Last Friday, I attended a seminar co-hosted by the China Financial Futures Exchange and Everbright Futures in Shanghai. Everbright, a top-ten financial group in China, is ambitious in the futures market. The event was held at the New Tian Havana Hotel (a Sino-Cuban joint venture) and featured speakers from regulatory bodies, Taiwan's Polaris Man Financial Futures, Everbright, a Hong Kong scholar, and Société Générale's Asia-Pacific index arbitrage team director. The topic focused on risk control issues after the launch of stock index futures, including Basel Accord content. This new derivative is shaking up China's financial institutions. The scale of the event showed Everbright's commitment—lunch was a lavish buffet (worth over NT$1,000 per person), followed by a banquet dinner with plenty of toasts (even the French participant joined in). More than a seminar, it felt like a networking opportunity. For Everbright, showcasing their partnerships and resources was likely the main goal. By Morgan on 2010.11.26
