Travel note summary: 6. Inner Mongolia, Ordos, Kubuqi Desert. After watching the sunrise on the grassland early in the morning, I moved to the desert. Yesterday I rode a horse, today I rode a camel. Sitting between the humps, swaying back and forth, I got a little feel for walking in the desert. Besides visiting the desert, today was quite leisurely with no real itinerary, so I remembered Professor Kim Ik-ki from South Korea, whom I met at Mount Wutai when he was also traveling alone. He's 65 years old, studied in the US for over seven years, majoring in sociology. Although retired in Korea, he now teaches again at Renmin University in Beijing. He's amazing—he's visited over 50 countries and more than 100 cities in China, and even been to Taiwan five or six times. Since we both love experiencing life and were both traveling solo this time, we got along really well. We even went to the Hanging Temple together on a motorcycle. One reason I've always loved traveling, besides seeing many different sights and broadening my horizons, is that I get to meet all kinds of people.
