Location: Jiabao Shifu Ginger Duck Hotpot, Daya, Taichung
Travel note: Kevin invited me for ginger duck hotpot, so I took the bus along Zhongqing Road all the way to Daya. Besides the famous Diyi, this place Kevin brought me to is also one of the well-known spots. A huge metal shed packed with people—apparently ginger duck is a local specialty here. Besides the standard broth, Kevin, who knows a thing or two about cooking, kept adding rice wine while it simmered. After a while, the broth indeed became sweeter. We ended up with three empty rice wine bottles and four beer bottles on the table. Later, Kevin's girlfriend Xiao Wan joined. Another happy dinner that lasted from 6 PM till almost midnight. Afterwards, I opened the long-unused Uber app to get a ride home and realized it was my first time using Uber in Taiwan—the last time was in Turkey back in 2017.
