Yesterday, I went to Insieme, an Italian red wine bar recommended by Leticia, only to find it was booked for a private event last night. So I had to end my visit early and head back home. To make up for yesterday's disappointment, after a meeting at the World Trade Center this afternoon, I visited two new spots in one go. First, Tiens le vin, which just opened in June. The owner, Cristal, worked in the wine industry for 15 years before opening her own shop. Wanting to build a temperature-controlled wine cellar in-store, she signed a ten-year lease directly with the landlord. The focus here is on French Burgundy wines, but not exclusively. I ordered 3 glasses of wine by the glass, and while chatting with the owner, she treated me to 4 more tastings from Southern France, South Africa, Gamay blends, and other varieties.
