Taipei, Pepper Lunch: Since Morgan doesn't live in Taipei, I hadn't heard of this place before. But thanks to serine's recommendation, I tried it during this Taipei trip. Apparently, it's quite a big deal—Japan's largest steakhouse chain. Its biggest feature is letting customers enjoy grilling their own food. Currently, there are three branches in Taipei (addresses listed at the end). My friend and I visited the one above K-Mall on a busy Saturday night. Even though it was raining outside, we still waited almost an hour for a table—business is that good. I ordered a combo plate (hamburger steak + chicken steak) (à la carte: NT$260) and also sneakily tried my friend's premium sirloin steak (à la carte: NT$240) and pepper beef rice (à la carte: NT$170). Drinks or soup are extra (around NT$40), plus a 10% service charge. I thought the steak wasn't particularly special, but the hamburger steak and chicken steak were pretty good. The iron plate arrives with the ingredients not fully cooked, so you have to flip and cook them yourself—probably why service is surprisingly fast.
