Travel Notes: Bolero Western Restaurant (Since 1934), near Dadaocheng, Taipei. In the morning, I visited my junior high school classmate Wei-Jia at his company, Starting Point Design, near Dihua Street. Wei-Jia and his brother co-founded the company, which mainly focuses on 3D scanning and printing. They're quite a competitive startup in this field in Taiwan, and even had a Japanese company interested in acquiring them before. Their cultural and creative products include figurines sold at the National Palace Museum, and they recently collaborated with Taiwanese miniature master Hong-Zhan Zheng. Practical products range from bicycle and car parts to shoe lasts (foot-shaped molds for shoemaking)... They even have one of only two 360-degree full-body scanners in Taiwan, capable of producing special effects like those in Hollywood movies. They've also recently received some government grants. For lunch, Wei-Jia and I went to the famous nostalgic Taipei Western restaurant next door, Bolero, which has over 80 years of history.
