Location: Taipei, 1789 French Patisserie
Travel notes: In the afternoon, I went to MTSK to order a new pair of leather shoes. In the evening, Sam, who just returned from the US, invited me to his favorite dessert spot in Taiwan—1789 Cafe. The chef here is French, and his wife is German. Even though the shop is tucked away in a lane near Zhongxiao Fuxing, business is booming. I enjoyed a yuzu éclair paired with a cup of Oriental Beauty tea—the sweetness slowly spread in my mouth with each sip, leaving a lingering aroma. Thanks for the treat, Sam! For dinner, I joined Pat and his whole family, including his three kids. Taiwan is such a small world—Pat's wife Ivy and Ethan Yang (Chairman Yang) have known each other since high school debate club (Taipei First Girls' High School & Cheng Kung High School). Tomorrow, she happens to be planning to visit Ying Dao Zu, a restaurant invested in by Chairman Yang. Sam, who was born in Shanghai and holds US citizenship, was thoroughly impressed by the full table of Taiwanese dishes. Thanks for hosting, Pat! After a long day, it's time to work on the slides for next week's class. @@ By Morgan @2022.12.18 evening
