Travel notes: Time flies, and the holiday is almost over. On my last day in Tainan, I had lunch with Egg, a senior from the Chef website (www.chef.com.tw). Morgan and Egg became friends back when I helped develop the touch-screen restaurant system he now uses in dozens of restaurants across Taiwan. The Chef dining website he founded has become one of Tainan's top food sites. Back when I followed him around eating and drinking, I learned a lot about Tainan's food culture. That noon, he drove me around Tainan city. Our first stop was Fu Ji Meatballs on Fuqian Road. Anyone who's spent time in Tainan is probably familiar with this place. Tainan meatballs are different from those in central Taiwan—they're often steamed instead of fried, with soft skins wrapped around fillings and drizzled with sauce. Another feature is the free unlimited bone broth. Personally, though, I prefer the meatball stall in front of the Martial Temple. Next, we went to the famous Du Hsiao Yueh Danzai Noodles.
