Travel Notes: Pingtung – Donggang Hot Pot (inside the night market). My friend Morgan has a good friend who lives in Linbian Township, Pingtung. Many people might not have heard of Linbian—it's the southern terminus of the National Freeway No. 3. Heading south from Kaohsiung, you pass through Linyuan and Donggang to reach Linbian, a quiet coastal fishing village. Every time we visit, he takes our group to a hot pot place in Donggang's night market. Actually, locals don't call it a night market; they call it a 'shangzhan' (commercial exhibition). Why? Because it really feels like a bustling market fair, selling everything, with many stalls set up right on the roadside. There aren't many shops or houses around—just a long, dimly lit road lined with all sorts of things. Having visited night markets all over Taiwan, this one feels quite unique to me because of its strong local flavor. The hot pot spot is easy to find, under a simple but quite long canopy, bustling with people and stretching for ten to twenty meters.
