Location: Pingtung, Wanluan Pork Knuckle Travel note summary: Pingtung -- Wanluan Pork Knuckle (Haihong Restaurant). During a graduation trip with Morgan and classmates from the Information Management institute, we drove several cars to Hualien and Taitung. Our first day's lunch was here. This place is quite famous, I believe. Heading south on Provincial Highway 1 towards Kenting, turn left onto Highway 187 towards Wanluan, and you can find it by following the crowd or asking locals. Every place has its specialty; when you think of Daxi, it's dried tofu; for Wanluan, it's pork knuckle. When a place is famous for a food, many shops sell the same thing, like suncakes in Taichung, but you'll find the most famous one is always packed. It's also extremely crowded here on weekends. Back then, we ordered a plate of pork knuckle, pork tendons, some greens, braised tofu, and offal soup. A plate of pork knuckle was around 300-something NT. I remember eating Wanluan pork knuckle that my parents brought home when I was little, but I couldn't really tell good from bad back then.
