Location: Guangdong Province, Jiangmen, Kaiping Diaolou. Travel note: Earlier this month, I backpacked through northern Guangdong, and at the end of the month, I headed west. Early in the morning at Luohu Long-Distance Bus Station, I boarded a coach heading west toward Jiangmen. After a bumpy, stop-and-go journey of over four hours, I finally arrived in Kaiping City. After getting off, I had a quick lunch, checked into the hotel, then returned to Kaiping Bus Station to catch a minibus toward Shahu. I hopped off near Liyuan and walked a stretch to reach the scenic area. Among Kaiping's diaolou sites, Liyuan and Zilicun are the more famous ones, which were my main stops today. Most of these diaolou clusters were built by overseas Chinese returning home. They were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007 and also served as filming locations for the movie 'Let the Bullets Fly.' Walking and sightseeing, I felt the traces of history, and the journey of life continues... By Morgan, April 30, 2016.
