Travel notes: Last Saturday, after playing badminton with friends including Zhiqian, I suddenly realized that Xiao Zhu's birthday was just a few days away. After the game, Xiao Zhu invited us all to eat at this Hefeng Canteen. Hefeng Canteen is on the third floor of the Hefeng Hall, which is just off Gongdao 5th Road, right next to the Standard Chartered Bank where Xiao Zhu works. She said she had eaten here before and it was quite good, so she wanted to come again. I had eaten at the Western restaurant on the second floor before, but this third-floor Hefeng Canteen specializing in Shanghai cuisine was my first visit. Since there were only four of us, we couldn't order too many dishes. In the end, we each chose one: Chives with Eel Paste, Ningbo Spicy Three Shreds, Shanghai Old Bones, and Clay Pot Yanduxian, plus Shanghai Soup Dumplings and four bowls of rice. The Clay Pot Yanduxian uses Jinhua ham and pork bones for the broth; the Shanghai Old Bones are made from pork hind leg meat; and the Ningbo Spicy Three Shreds, stir-fried with dried tofu, shredded pork, etc., was quite appetizing with rice.
