Travel note snippet: Zhuchang Sesame Oil Chicken is a fairly well-known spot in Hsinchu. The owner had previously moved to Xinfeng to open a shop, but I recently heard they've returned to Hsinchu. After work today, I invited a friend to check out this new location near the Far Eastern Department Store on Xida Road, with its red signboard. At first glance, it looks like a roadside stall, but inside there's actually quite a bit of seating in the back. I ordered a bowl of sesame oil chicken. I initially thought it would come as a hotpot, but it arrived in a large bowl—aromatic chicken soup with a strong rice wine scent, containing about five pieces of chicken, for 80 NTD. We also got a plate of noodles (30 NTD) to fill up, mixed with sesame oil broth, ginger slices, and cabbage. The shop also offers dishes like pork liver, pork heart, chicken gizzard, and blanched vegetables, making it a good spot for sharing with a group. The chicken in the sesame oil chicken varied in texture—some pieces were a bit tough, while others were just right, tender and smooth.
