Location: Hsinchu Chenji Noodle House & Jifeng Steamed Dumplings (now changed to Riquan Steamed Dumplings). Honestly, I still can't figure out if there's any connection between Chenji and Lao Chenji. It seems like there is, but I haven't heard the details. If any forum friends know, maybe they can share! But they're both quite famous old shops in Hsinchu. At least, I'd eaten there before I even came to Hsinchu for work. After moving here, I've eaten at both a few times. Whether it's Chenji or Lao Chenji, their prices feel a bit higher than average. Like the other day, a friend from Taipei came down, and we ate at Chenji. We ordered beef roll cake, fresh meat steamed dumplings, 15 boiled dumplings, and a small bowl of meatball soup. Maybe because we ordered the roll cake, we spent 255 NTD without feeling very full. But thinking about it later, it seems about right, maybe just a little pricey. The roll cake was pretty good, with minced beef giving a nice texture. Other items were okay. Chenji seems busier than Lao Chenji, so I've eaten there more often.
