Location: Shenzhen, Dongmen, Legendary Maocai
Travel note: After an evening massage and foot rub in Shenzhen's Dongmen area, I walked back toward Old Street. I randomly spotted a restaurant and went in. Maocai comes from Chengdu and means 'a one-person hotpot'—basically, it's like the spicy hotpot you often see. I asked for the original flavor, but what arrived was still a sea of red! I kept sticking out my tongue from the heat, and my mouth went numb. I had to order a beer to rinse my mouth and cool down the spiciness. @@ By Morgan, evening of Nov 8, 2014
