Travel Notes: Guangdong, Heyuan - Wanlv Lake, Xinfengjiang Dam. Wanlv Lake is a 4A-level scenic area in Heyuan and the largest artificial lake in South China, named for its emerald green water. There are tour boats that take you to several small islands on the lake. Nearby is the Jinghuayuan scenic area, named after the Qing Dynasty novel 'Flowers in the Mirror', about the protagonist's adventures sailing out to sea (an Eastern version of Gulliver's Travels). After watching a performance in the Daughter Kingdom and viewing scenic spots along the way下山, I left Jinghuayuan. Checking the map at the exit, I noticed the nearby Xinfengjiang Dam. Seeing I had time, I called an Uber to head over. Walking up the mountain road to the dam, I suddenly realized that besides being Guangdong's largest hydropower station, this dam is also what created Wanlv Lake by impounding water. :p Standing on the dam, overlooking the lake on one side and the downstream on the other, on this drizzly afternoon, watching the slight water release, the expansive views on both sides were invigorating!
