Location: Bagan, Myanmar
Travel Notes: I have been moved by the lingering sunset glow at Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and I have been awed by the golden dawn light at Borobudur in Indonesia. Therefore, among the three major Buddhist sacred sites in Southeast Asia, the last one I visited—the Bagan temple complex in Myanmar—I chose to appreciate from sunset to sunrise, feeling the millennia-old peace and tranquility here. Later, I continued with my guide, Wen, visiting one after another temples built from the 11th to the 13th centuries. At its peak, there were over ten thousand monasteries and pagodas here. Seeing the various colossal Buddha statues and the red, yellow, and white murals on the walls, while listening to stories of Nirvana and reincarnation, I felt as if cut off from the world, immersed in the prosperous scene of the Buddhist capital during the medieval unification of Myanmar by the Bagan Dynasty...
