Travel notes: I've been exploring many places in Hong Kong these past few weeks—from Yuen Long and Tuen Mun in the west, to Ma On Shan and Sai Kung in the east, down to Tsim Sha Tsui and Stanley, and up to Sha Tin and even into Shenzhen. The Sai Kung Geopark, certified by UNESCO, is spread out over a wide area. One route leads to the East Dam of High Island Reservoir. You can buy a special bus ticket at the Volcano Discovery Centre next to the Sai Kung bus terminal. The 30-minute ride takes you along winding mountain roads. After getting off and walking a short distance, the wind and rain suddenly picked up. Walking on the dam in the storm, my umbrella turned inside out and my hat almost blew away. Watching the huge waves churning in the sea, I wondered if I might be swept away too. I hurried to the nearest pavilion to take shelter. After waiting a while, the storm gradually eased. A bit later, the scene was completely different—the reservoir and sea caves under blue skies and white clouds were stunningly beautiful.
