Flowing water never stagnates; a door hinge never gets worm-eaten. Taking advantage of the rare clear weather these past few days, I headed out. The Plover Cove Reservoir dam is the world’s first dam built in the sea. I took bus 75K from Tai Po Market Station to get there. After seeing the dam, I walked back to the bus stop and hiked uphill toward Pat Sin Leng for about an hour to reach Bride’s Pool. It’s named after a bride who drowned here on her wedding day, so there are many ghost stories. Leaving Bride’s Pool, I checked my phone on the bus back and realized Chi Shan Monastery was along the route, so I pressed the stop button and got off at Sam Tam Kap. After a 15-minute walk along the mountain road, I saw the Guanyin statue. The monastery is famous for this statue—the world’s second-tallest Guanyin, standing 25 stories high, funded by Li Ka-shing with HKD 1.5 billion (NTD 6 billion).
