Today I split my time between two spots: Xunxiatang Wine Shop in Taipei’s Wenshan District and Chapter One in Xindian. I made the trip to Xunxiatang after Facebook kept recommending it, tried two Southern Italian wines by the glass plus one from New Zealand, and chatted with the owner, Ms. Yu, who has run the place for over a decade—now a 200-ping space with a basement cellar, food service, and thousands of wines that left quite an impression. After a meal at Yulon City, I headed to Chapter One, where owner Ben—formerly in Art Deco for luxury homes and now seven-plus years into this Xindian shop—uses AI for his website and has even built a methodology for a wine index; we happily drank Australian and Central Italian wines, and what started as a glass turned into two bottles opened by Ben, lasting until nearly midnight even though the shop closes at 9.
