Location: Casual Notes Travel note summary: Another somewhat busy day. In the afternoon, Mingzhi, a senior alumnus from the class of '74 at the NCKU alumni association, introduced Fisher, an alumnus from the class of '96 in statistics at NCKU, to Cindy and me. Fisher later went to study in the US and now works at a VC founded by Stanford alumni: Palm Drive Capital. Palm Drive currently manages nearly $400 million in AUM, with a portfolio spanning five continents and over 10 unicorn investments. They previously focused mostly on Web 2 projects but have recently started exploring Web 3. In Taiwan this year, they've invested in projects like Lootex and Oursong, and are also investors in crypto giant Matrixport. I had a great chat with my junior and added him on Line to exchange crypto info. Thanks to Senior Mingzhi for the introduction! :) After a few more meetings, I got home, took a call, and got busy again—before I knew it, it was past 10 PM. I had to order takeout and grabbed a random bottle of Chardonnay from the fridge. I really needed to recharge to have the energy later to research some platforms on Ethereum Layer 2's Arbitrum. Life always has new things to keep learning. :P ~ By Morgan @2022.10.5 evening
Location: First Experience with Clubhouse Travel Notes: My first experience with Clubhouse. Loco has been enthusiastic about hosting rooms on CH lately, talking about trading and US stocks, and now has nearly 3,000 followers, mostly among the Chinese community in the US. In the evening, he suddenly asked if I wanted to go on as a guest to talk about the crypto world, so I installed CH and tried it for the first time. Facing over a hundred listeners, men and women, and the endless stream of questions they threw out, I answered as much as I could. From basic Bitcoin and Ethereum, to Gas Fees on Ethereum, smart contracts, DApps, how to hedge or reduce positions during a bear market, to DeFi (exchanges, lending), platform tokens, NFTs on OpenSea, the blockchain trilemma (decentralization, security, scalability), insurance platforms for DeFi like Nexus Mutual and Yinsure, well-known public chains like Cardano and Solana, and the recently popular NFT game token AXS... It's really tiring to keep talking; Loco is amazing for being able to talk all night like this often. P.S. But after finishing one session, my new account immediately gained 30 followers, which is quite interesting! By Morgan @2021.8.16 evening
Location: Udemy. Last year, I stayed home due to the pandemic, so I took the opportunity to record some paid online courses and put them on the global online education platform Udemy. After this time, without any promotion, I now have students from over 15 countries and more than 300 subscribers, with an overall rating of 4.4/5. Sometimes, seeing positive feedback and encouragement from students, or receiving their desire to learn more in-depth knowledge, always brings a different kind of warmth and passion. It makes me feel that recording these courses in between binge-watching shows is totally worth it—just like writing playful poems on the food board of Mengda BBS back in the day! Location: Benjamin Steakhouse, New York, USA Travel note: After a long day of running around, tonight's dinner was at Benjamin Steakhouse in New York, ranked second among the city's steakhouses, just behind Peter Luger (the top spot is just too hard to book). The dry-aged American beef was really tasty~ Cheers! By Morgan @2017.11.5
Location: USA, New York, Wall Street, Statue of Liberty, Chinatown Travel note: Finally had some free time to wander around Wall Street, the Statue of Liberty, and Chinatown in New York. Dinner was at Benjamin Steakhouse, ranked second in New York (just behind Peter Luger, which was too hard to book). Their dry-aged US beef was really good! Cheers!
Location: USA, New York, Porter House Steak Travel note: One of New York's famous steakhouses. No need to specify any doneness—the steak comes out perfectly cooked naturally. Paired with red wine, the per-person cost is around 140 USD~ By Morgan @2017.11.2
Location: New York, Broadway musical, Times Square, Fifth Avenue Travel note: Broadway musicals, Times Square, and Fifth Avenue in New York.
Location: New York, November 2017 Travel note: New York City, USA. Roots in mind, eyes on the world~
Location: Uber Travel note summary: After the second round of drinks tonight, I used Uber for the first time to get home. Have to say, the fare was quite different from regular taxis. Might try it again next time~ @@
Location: Manga Travel note: The hardest thing to get used to in mainland China is the lack of physical manga (probably due to publication controls). So after returning to Taiwan this week, I spent two nights catching up like crazy—I plowed through over twenty volumes (Zipang, Cross Game, King of Golf, Area no Kishi, Bakuman, Major, One Outs, Naniwa Tomoare, Change Up, Shin Kurosagi, Psychometrer Eiji, Baby Steps, Smash!, Team Medical Dragon...). But there are still so many I haven't updated yet (One Piece, Naruto, Toriko, Angel Beats... too many to list). Being able to binge-read a huge pile of unread manga at once is actually a kind of happiness. @@a
