Location: Year-End Europe Trip Notes Travel Notes: 2025 11/13-12/9 Year-End Europe Trip Notes. This is my third time at Frankfurt Airport in Germany within a month—I've now collected arrivals, departures, and transfers. I'm not someone who usually brings a suitcase; I find it troublesome during transfers or regular movement. So no matter how many days I'm out, I try to pack everything into one backpack. This Europe trip, including round-trip flight time, totaled 27 days, and I still traveled with just one backpack. But because I went to polar regions and needed more gear like snow boots, I had to bring an extra shoulder bag. (Photo taken earlier at Helsinki Airport, Finland.) This trip covered 14 countries, 3 of which I'd visited before, and 24 cities. That temporarily brings my lifetime country count to 39. (Including all of China, every province except Tibet/Hong Kong/Macau.) Travel is my biggest interest, far above food and drink. Every journey is a new challenge, and I never tire of it. I also want to explore this vast world as much as possible. You encounter new problems to solve and gain fresh life experiences. You meet different people and create unique memories. Connecting each major point on the itinerary—time, transportation, sights, experiences, activities, accommodation... planes, buses, subways, trains, boats, taxis, walking... plus all the preparations: SIM cards, laptop, medicine, snacks... requires constant thinking, gathering information, and dynamic decision-making. I try to keep flexibility while ensuring the trip goes smoothly. Unexpected events are inevitable (like at Helsinki train station, trying to store luggage in a self-service locker before catching a ferry, misoperating and getting the luggage locked, calling for help, waiting for staff to solve it. Or arriving at the train station at 4:00 AM to catch a train to the airport, only to find the main entrance closed too early, having to find a side path to the platform. Or a hotel using self-check-in with a code, but the code kept failing; after contacting the booking platform's customer service, I found out the hotel had two locations with the same name within 200 meters, and I went to the wrong one, waiting over an hour in the cold wind...). But like life, things can't always go smoothly. Just maintain a go-with-the-flow attitude and find a way to solve it. Still Keep Going! After jotting down some thoughts, I'm about to board. Next up: flying in Europe + transfer in Hong Kong + flying in Asia + adjusting back 7 hours of time difference. If all goes well, I'll be back in Taiwan after a day and a night. @@ #Europe #Trip #Life #SeizeTheDay By Morgan @2025.12.8 at German airport
Location: Finland Travel Notes: We visited the Arctic Museum and took the VR Polar Train (12-hour sleeper). We stayed inside the Arctic Circle for three nights, but unfortunately, thick clouds meant we didn't see the Northern Lights. However, at the Arctic Museum, we saw many magical and dazzling Aurora projections, which somewhat made up for the disappointment. After eating at what was once the world's northernmost McDonald's, we boarded the VR Polar Train (Santa Claus Express) at night, traveling from Rovaniemi all the way south to Helsinki, Finland's capital—a journey of 12–13 hours. Besides sleeper berths for sleeping, the train has a dining car, and the compartments even have showers, which we of course had to try. We discovered that each press of the button gives 15 seconds of hot water, so we had to shower in segments. At the museum, I bought canned bear meat to eat on the train. The last time I had bear meat was in Russia, but it was so long ago I'd almost forgotten the taste, so I decided to try it again here. #Finland #vrtrain #SantaClausExpress #Aurora #bearmeat By Morgan @2025.12.6 evening
Location: Finland Travel Notes: Lapland Region (Lapland, Finland). These past few days in Lapland, the northernmost part of Finland inside the Arctic Circle, we stayed in a cabin. At night, we had salmon pizza with red wine, and after dinner, played Big Two with some new friends I met on this Nordic trip: Xiao Bi, a former algorithm engineer at ByteDance who got a lot of stock options and has now quit to travel in Europe for months; Xiao Ma, a 27-year-old currently working as a chef in Germany; and a lovely lady—four of us in total. Or we'd sweat it out in the small sauna using a Finnish electric sauna heater. During the day, in the icy, snowy silver world, we experienced reindeer sledding and husky sledding, feeling scenes we'd only seen in movies before. Quite fulfilling days indeed. #Lapland #Finland #Reindeer #ArcticCircle By Morgan @2025.12.4
Location: Prague, Czech Republic (2nd visit) Travel Notes: Prague, Czech Republic, second visit. After eight years, I've returned to Prague. The Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, Prague Square/Castle, the Powder Tower... The world is so vast, yet a human lifetime is extremely limited. Being able to visit a place more than once is truly rare and a matter of fate. #Prague #Czech By Morgan @2025.11.29
Location: Vienna, Austria; Schönbrunn Palace Travel Notes: Vienna, Austria, and Schönbrunn Palace. Vienna's City Hall, Parliament, Hofburg Palace, St. Stephen's Cathedral, State Opera, Golden Hall... From the Holy Roman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire... until the end of World War I, when the Habsburg dynasty ended its 640-year rule, to the modern Republic of Austria, I felt the traces of various historical events that have occurred on this land. Vienna's night view is indeed quite beautiful and moving; the only downside was the near-zero-degree weather, which was a bit cold. For dinner, we wandered around and casually found a restaurant with a 4.7 Google rating to try Wiener Schnitzel (Viennese schnitzel), paired with a glass of Austrian red wine and a glass of Austrian white wine. The thinly pounded pork cutlet, drizzled with lemon juice, cut open and dipped in cranberry sauce—the meaty aroma blended with sweet and sour flavors—tasted pretty good. Location: Paris, France Travel Notes: Moulin Rouge in Paris. Last night, I spent 200 euros (about 7,200 NTD) to have someone help me buy a last-minute ticket for the Sunday evening Moulin Rouge show. Then, I took a taxi for over 40 minutes to the red-light district in the 18th arrondissement of Paris to see the Moulin Rouge performance, which I'd heard about since childhood. Among Paris's three major shows (Moulin Rouge, Crazy Horse, Lido), Moulin Rouge, established in 1889, is undoubtedly the oldest. After being seated, I was lucky to be placed at one of the tables closest to the stage. Sitting opposite me was a girl named K from New Zealand, who also came alone to see the Moulin Rouge show—this was actually her third time (2012, 2017, 2025). Because she loves shows, she's also going to see Crazy Horse next Tuesday. After clinking champagne glasses with her, the performance soon began. Since photography and recording aren't allowed during the show, the video was recorded during the dinner period before the 9:00 PM performance. The entire show, besides the famous can-can dance, combined various elements: sensuality, entertainment, song and dance, acrobatics... constantly earning applause from the packed audience. A truly unforgettable memory fragment in the City of Romance. Cheers! :) #MoulinRouge #France #Paris By Morgan @2025.11.24

Location: Mainz, Germany Travel notes: Mainz, Germany. After returning to Frankfurt Central Station for the third time this evening, I took a train for about an hour to Mainz, a city near Frankfurt by the Rhine River. My cousin Iris recently came here to study, so I made a special trip to visit her and also see the Rhine River night view. First, I recommended she try German Riesling, while I ordered a semi-sweet white wine of the BACCHUS variety. For the second round, she took me to a pretty good place that serves raw pork with onion bread. We ended up chatting for over five hours. Cheers~ #mainz #germany By Morgan @2025.11.29 evening

Location: Yilan, Lan Castle Jingying Hotel 6F, Cherry Valley Duck Five Ways Travel note summary: Cherry Valley Duck Five Ways on the 6th floor of Lan Castle Jingying Hotel in Yilan. Even on a Monday noon, it was fully booked—if not for a last-minute cancellation, we wouldn't have gotten a table! @@ Paired with a French red wine, the whole meal was quite satisfying. Location: Nantou - Puli, Sun Moon Lake, Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, dinner at The Lalu Travel notes: Today, I went to Puli with my classmate Guo Xiaoping. We first visited the Earth Mother Temple and enjoyed the view overlooking Puli. After trying some 18°C handmade ice cream, we headed to Sun Moon Lake, which I hadn't visited in a long time. We took a boat from Shuishe Pier, rode the cable car up the mountain, and explored the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, which I hadn't been to in over 30 years. With almost no queues, we enjoyed rides like Spanish Coast, Space Mountain, Gold Mine, and Mayan Adventure. For dinner, we ate at the Chinese restaurant in The Lalu (around NT$1,300 per person). While admiring the lake and mountain views by the window, Xiaoping shared funny stories from his business trips to the U.S. when he worked at Micron. Another fulfilling day came to an end. Location: London, UK – Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill Travel note summary: In London, UK, at Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill. At noon, I unexpectedly attended a club lunch gathering (Oxford & Cambridge Club) that requires an invitation from Oxford or Cambridge alumni. For this, I had to buy a new suit jacket, shirt, trousers, tie, and new leather shoes just to get in. In the evening, I had dinner with my Taichung First Senior High School classmate, Huifeng, whom I hadn't seen in 20 years. Saw on Facebook that Daniel Lin had just arrived in London from the US, so we invited him along—more like a chance encounter. We ended up at this century-old British establishment for dinner. Since 1916, it truly is a historic spot. Oysters are their specialty, and other seafood is great too. With two bottles of French red wine down, it was another delightful dinner. Huifeng is now researching color algorithms at AUO. It really was fate that we could meet here!!! Cheers~ By Morgan @ Evening of Oct 9, 2017

Location: Lviv City, Ukraine Travel note summary: In Lviv City, Ukraine. Took advantage of the weekend to hop on a train and wander around casually. This is already my fourth visit this year, so nothing feels unfamiliar. While walking on the street, I suddenly ran into a couple who struck up a conversation with me. They said they've been learning Chinese here for three years but haven't had many chances to practice. Since it's rare to encounter an East Asian face here, they asked where I'm from, if I'm a student, and chatted with me for a while. Honestly, their Chinese was pretty decent, and with English, there were basically no communication barriers. The guy even gave himself a Chinese name, Stephen. In the end, we took a photo together and exchanged WeChat. It was an interesting little episode during the journey~ By Morgan on Sep 30, 2017
Location: Romania - Vampire Legends Travel Notes: After spending the night at Istanbul Airport, I arrived in Romania today. Since it was another last-minute trip, I didn't do much research. I ended up spending $500 to hire a private car with a driver/guide for 10 hours to explore Romania. At Count Dracula's castle, I felt the eerie atmosphere of the ancient fortress. In the town square of Brasov, I experienced the charm of a European small town. Surprisingly, I got along really well with the guide throughout the day. After the 10 hours were up, he even continued to take me back to the old town of Bucharest, treated me to dinner, and showed me the bar street. One of the bars was actually run by the Japanese Yakuza—it was quite lively at night and supposedly a wild spot. Finally, I tried some shisha with a hint of mint and lemon flavor, leaving me with wonderful memories of this trip to Romania. By Morgan, evening of August 12, 2017.
