Travel notes summary: Wanlv Lake in Heyuan, Guangdong is a 4A-level scenic area and the largest artificial lake in South China, named for its emerald-green water. There are sightseeing boats that take you to several small islands on the lake. Nearby is the Jinghuayuan Scenic Area, named after the Qing dynasty novel 'Jinghuayuan' (a Chinese version of Gulliver's Travels). After watching a performance in the 'Kingdom of Women' and walking down along the scenic spots, I left Jinghuayuan and checked the map at the exit, noticing the Xinfengjiang Dam nearby. With time to spare, I called an Uber to head over. Walking up the mountain road to the dam, I suddenly realized—this dam is not only Guangdong's largest hydroelectric power station but also the very structure that created Wanlv Lake by impounding water. :p Standing on the dam, I took in the vast lake on one side and gazed downstream on the other.
