Travel Notes: Called a taxi from the hotel in the morning and spent two hours rushing to the Putuo Mountain ferry terminal. Then it was a day of constantly switching between various modes of transport: cable car, ferry, shuttle bus, taxi, walking, high-speed rail... Putuo Mountain is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains (practice sites). It's the third Buddhist sacred mountain I've visited, after Wutai Mountain in Shanxi and Emei Mountain in Sichuan. This is also the practice site of Guanyin Bodhisattva. After paying respects at the Buddha's Peak (Huiji Temple) at the highest point of Putuo Mountain, I traveled 144 kilometers southwest from the easternmost part of Zhejiang Province—over two hours by taxi—all the way to Fenghua. Probably the longest taxi ride I've ever taken. (Including the empty return trip surcharge, the fare totaled 663 RMB.) All to buy a ticket before evening to see the Chiang Family Former Residence.
